What women are really saying!

I Recently attended a Fife Women in Business evening event as my great Twitter buddy @JaneCWoods from Changing People  was giving a talk on the difference in communication between men and women.  A great talk and a great evening that really opened my eyes to just how much difference in communication there is between the sexes!

Today I received an email from a friend which was on very much the same lines (although very tongue in cheek!) .. so I thought I would share this with you!   Men …. take careful note – it will save you a lot of trouble in the long run!

NINE WORDS WOMEN USE

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That’s Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you’re welcome. (I want to add in a clause here – This is true, unless she says ‘Thanks a lot’ – that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say ‘you’re welcome’ . that will bring on a ‘whatever’).

(8) Whatever: Is a woman’s way of saying F– YOU!

(9) Don’t worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking ‘What’s wrong?’ For the woman’s response refer to # 3.

and the next challenge is ….

   EXERCISE!

… Well Water Aerobics to be precise.   I was a regular (twice a week!) for almost a year but the local pool closed for modernisation for 3 months and I have just never got back into the habit… but I must .. the non smoking is going very well, the diet is going well (with the odd little cheat!) but I really must do some exercise.  I did think that I would just use the Wii and make a fool of myself in the living room, but for some reason I walk into the livingroom and my arse just gravitates towards my comfy chair!

I really have no excuse… the nights are getting longer, the weather (hopefully!) improving it is just ME!  I am the reason I don’t go .. I just need to force myself out of the door once or twice and I will be back into the routine!

I really enjoyed it before.. there was a nice crowd that went and we had a right laugh .. I just got lazy!

So this weekend I am looking out my cossie .. shaving my legs and preparing myself to go .. I will .. I will .. I will!

Mika and Fergus

We have had a very productive day today .. mainly to do with clearing out of things that we really have no use for.  These have included our guinea pig cage, hutch and run as poor wee ruiey has gone to the big strawbale in the sky.

Karen was out the back garden at the Kennel earlier (it is an actual dog kennel but we use it for “stuff”!) Mika and Lou Lou (one of the other cats) followed Karen down the garden.  Karen, spotting the horses in the field, went over to stroke them and was stunned to see Mika worming her way under the wooden fence towards the horse.  We are not actually sure if Mika was perhaps stalking the horse with a view to a very big “kill”.. but anyway …it ended up Mika and the horse nose to nose, the horse was really interested in her and she was really interested in it! .. it was lovely to see… I was in the kitchen watching it all unfold and Karen was scared to move incase she startled one or the other.   It just goes to show you can’t judge your friends on appearance and sometimes the unlikliest of friendships can occur.

The garden and horse field in slightly snowier times!

Mika has been booked in for her “operation” on Wednesday.  I always hate putting my pets through operations but in all honesty it is better than letting them have offspring .. I would find it far to hard to give them away and would just end up with a housefull!

I also think that there are enough wee animals out there in rescue centres that need a loving home without me being selfish for my own reasons.

Mika is a bit of a one off .. In all my years of owning cats I have never met such a determined bad tempered kitten!  She is an absolute monster BUT she can also be such a sweetie pie .. unfortunately she can go from sweetie pie to monster in less than a second.

At night, when we get back from work she pops out the cat flap and runs to the gate to meet us.. meowing and rubbing against our legs.  She gives us so much love .. then I feed her .. that’s it .. no more love .. just attack mode!

She absolutely adores the dogs… and the dogs adore her .. she likes nothing better than to cuddle up to them, although they tend to be a little wary of the “sharp bits”.

I love her character …. The people we got her from phoned up asking if I knew of anyone looking for a kitten as Mika’s mum gave birth to 2 more kittens (younger but a full brother and sister to Mika).  My mums friend Jim took the boy .. a beautiful friendly ginger boy that he called Sonny.   Sonny has turned out to be almost a double character wise to Mika .. grumpiness must run in the family!

Well I had my first weigh in today, 6 days after I started my diet.  I have done well 4.5 pounds .. and in all we ate out 3 times during this period (actually 4 if you count my “last supper” that I had on the Thursday night!.    I have also been finding going without a ciggie a little easier.  I am still using patches but NOT chewing as much gum and not “thinking” about having a ciggie as often now either!

Only small steps so far, but at least I am moving in the right direction and I am quite pleased.

Next week I will start exercising properly.   I was thinking about taking up water aerobics again but the classes start at 6pm which is a little tight for me since I work until 5pm and often have to stay late.  I think I will plug in the Wii and try some of the fitness things on there.   It will also save me spending money so I will have yet ANOTHER benefit of this sudden “improve myself” mid life crisis I am going through!

Watch this space….

Taking back control…

I have been neglecting my poor wee blog lately.  I have been writing a different blog for work and have been very, VERY busy, which is good but has meant that time for ME has been put on a backburner.

I have however decided to take back a little bit of control in my life.. and I’m not doing things by half!

I have started a diet .. which so far is going well and I’m giving up smoking – I only started my non smoking project today .. so very early stages.

The reasons for this are two fold, medically I have a few ongoing problems (diabetes, high cholrestoral and high blood pressure) so losing weight and stopping smoking are both a sensible idea.  More than this I WANT to lose weight and I WANT to stop smoking.  It has taken me a long time to get here but now I have reached the right place in my head I am determined to do it.

I am not a woman who is easily defeated, certainly I lose some battles but as the years have whooshed past and my greying hair comes to the fore, I have realised that the battles I have lost were never battles I was ever going to win.

Sometimes acceptance is a difficult pill to swallow, I know my pride (and my heart) have felt the pain of losing those battles, but in hindsight they have made me who I am.  I like myself, I am not perfect and I have done things in the past that perhaps I should regret, but I don’t .. they have made me who I am.

No-one else can help me with my quest of dieting or stopping smoking.. it is something I have to do myself

So today, on Valentines Day I am giving myself the gift of taking back control.

Happy Valentines everyone!
