Afterglow

A beautiful poem from Noora ….

Noora's avatarPerpetual Fire

Alone
in the afterglow,
lying here
in our memories

reminiscing how it felt to be
an inspiration for your creative fingertips;
how I melted like soft clay
in the hands of a dedicated sculptor
as you made me
your secret masterpiece,
and yours alone I still am
in the afterglow of our love

Reminiscing
how it felt to unfold you
with my love, one layer at a time
or how my hopeful lips stole your breath
and made it ours
in the kiss of truths and expectations

and still tonight
I breathe our love
when I escape to the place
where yesterday’s spark still flames
where unwritten poems
sensuously moan,
where you stay
with me
unforgettable
in the afterglow

This is just beautiful.

I watched “In her shoes” with my friend Karen last night … I think I won on the crying front …

I have a wonderful ability to attract drama into my life.   I really do not know how I manage to do it .. but I seem to have a great knack for it… thankfully I am at that place in my life where I can tutt and laugh …

This morning was no exception … being the classy chick that I am, I flung a cigarette end out of my car window (yes .. I know .. bad!) .. anyway … I drove on (with Renata in the car) … then we could smell burning … it was ME!! … the end of the cigarette had come back in and gone down the back of my shirt!

I quickly pulled over, leaped out of the car and hoisted my shirt up (poor passing motorists .. my belly and bra are both of a large noticeable size!) .. poor Renata had to stick her hand up the back of my shirt and try to find the cigarette end …

Thankfully (apart from the embarrassment) no harm done!  (Although Renata is in shock!).

I also had a hospital appointment today … when I was in Romania and after I came back, I have had bad swelling below my knees, I ended up giving in and going to the doctor last night and ended up with 2 injections in my stomach and strict instructions to dial 999 immediately if I had chest pains or started coughing up blood!!!

Thankfully the hospital appointment today has ruled out a DVT … but now I am being treated for Cellulitis .. antibiotics and water tablets … boy this weekend is going to be fun *sigh*

I am also living in a midden right now … I had the walls and ceiling of my living room plastered last week and it is due to be decorated next week …  but until then I have bits of furniture and “stuff” all over my bedroom, kitchen and back hall!! … it is more like an assault course than anything else!

I certainly do not like to do things by half …   I think I have had enough bliddy drama for a while .. can someone else take it over please!!!   *smile*

… In Romania ….. oh damn .. doesn’t quite fit with the song!

Well .. I’m back in Scotland after the most fantastic week with friends in Romania.   My pal Alex and I travelled over together, which in itself was an experience!   Alex has a broken ankle and had booked wheelchairs at the airports .. great .. fantastic .. aye right! … she sat there like the Queen of Sheba being pushed along the long, long corridors of Heathrow while I ran alongside like some sort of Quasimodo from the sticks!!     However, we did get priority treatment and to the front of the security queues etc … so it wasn’t all bad!

We spent the first two nights in Bucharest at the home of my friends … during this time we experienced the drivers of Bucharest in all their glory!   Traffic lights are for decoration, lanes are just paint on the road .. and roundabouts … well .. they are just parking spaces!

To see Bucharest was an experience is an understatement … absolutely fascinating.. from the drivers (obviously!) to the beautiful buildings on show (and hidden away) … a place I would highly recommend everyone visits!

We left Bucharest after 2 nights of being fed so much food that I thought I was going to explode only to arrive in Sinaia in Transylvania and be treated to another HUGE traditional meal at a restaurant in the mountains.    Not only was the company and food great BUT during the time there a bear was wandering outside the restaurant .. not that we seen it .. but Alex and I were like two kids in a sweetshop … until we had to leave  … then I was more than delighted to get into the car before the bear got me!

After 2 fantastic days in the Sinaia area, where we visited Bran Castle (Dracula’s castle) and Peles Castle and saw some wonderful scenery, we moved up to Sibiu … not as dramatic scenery wise around the hotel but the main town was extremely beautiful .. as was a very special little bar we found that had only been open for 2 days .. I think we sampled most of the cocktails there … *smile* …

We discovered new words in the English language like Parkated .. infact we decided we like the word parkated so much we used “ated” at the end of most words … which at one point nearly killed us all as we were laughing so much in the car I thought we were going to crash!

We had a fantastic traditional meal in the town … along with traditional Romanian drinks … and although Alex and I were very keen to taste everything that was authentically Romanian we did draw the line at pigs brains …. *shudder*

Our final day up in Transylvania was visiting Balea Lake which is high in the mountains up the famous Transfagarasan Road … the drive was spectacular, the lake mysterious and wonderful (still partially frozen over in June!) and we even managed to have a snowball fight!

We left the lake and headed back down the mountain, presuming that we had seen everything exciting that we were going to see … how wrong we were … as we turned a corner, there in the middle of the road was a huge bear … we screamed with excitement and scrabbled for our camera’s .. I managed to get a couple of shots in .. but the do not capture the size or the beauty of the animal … he (or she!) was HUGE … and sat looking at the car for a good few seconds before heading back into the forest.

Our last night ended at 3.30am in the morning … me and one of my friends staying up to chat about the holiday, life and laugh at the experiences of the past week….  it was truly a holiday of a lifetime for me .. brilliant scenery, brilliant experiences and brilliant company …

I hope to return …

Some photos of the trip below!

At last….

At last!!   My holiday is here … and to say I am excited is an understatement.   I have not looked forward to a holiday like this in a long time.

I had a couple of holidays last year one to Cyprus and one to Spain that were great but difficult for different reasons.

Looking back Cyprus was when I started to really feel the pressure of work .. I went away stressed out and I just worried the whole time I was away .. I slept badly .. preferring to watch the electrical storms in the wee small hours.   It was how I felt at the time.

Spain .. well Spain was great … I was with 3 friends and I felt myself relaxing .. I became me again .. and it was then I realised just how much stress I had been under and how depressed I was.   It was a difficult realisation .. it had been tough on the business front for a long time .. and I am one of those people who do care and do worry, probably too much at times.    Spain made me realise that I wasn’t coping, I was someone I didn’t want to be and it helped me so much at the time.

This holiday I am going with no stress, no worries.  Things are not perfect but I have realised that worrying about things that I have no control over only makes me ill .. and I am not prepared to put myself through that again.

This holiday I am spending it with a good matie, Alex, from Edinburgh and meeting 2 girls I met in Spain last year .. both lovely, wonderful women, with a great sense of humour… they are as excited about this holiday as I (and Alex!) are … and i think it will be a good turning point for me…. I just have a feeling that my life is about to take a step in a different direction .. it is a feeliing that has crept back up on me and I like it.

You have a week of peace from me *smile*   I will be back posting pictures and telling stories of my trip next week.

All change ….

Change is inevitable in our lives.  We constantly grow as people, change jobs, begin (and end) relationships, grow up, move on.    We never stay still and nor should we.

I have felt for a few months now that there are changes afoot in my life, with me personally I mean.. I have felt different more settled and less stressed.   It didn’t happen overnight, it took time and for most of that time I didn’t even know it was happening, but things are definitely different now.

I am still undergoing tests to hopefully solve the problem with my knee and back (turns it is a mix of arthritis and flat feet!!)  how glamorous!! LOL        I have to attend a Bio Mechanics clinic to try to get them to realign me … BUT .. the doctor has told me that I can help myself by losing weight … and in all honesty, I do need to… so … I will.    I am also going to stop smoking… I know I have said this and failed miserably in the past .. but the time feels right now.. I will continue to smoke when I am on holiday but on my return I will make a serious effort to stop smoking and improve on my fitness too.

We do have to accept that  it is our responsibility to make decision to change things that are not good or not helpful to us.

I am very bad at doing things for “myself” .. I tend to be better if I feel I am doing it for someone else but at the end of the day I do know that no-one can be responsible for me .. I make my own choices.

Maybe it is time to make some good ones.
